Welcome To Oliver Currans Art.  A Self Taught Irish Artist

This web site is a simple one for now, more detail and art content will be added very soon, many more images of the artists work will also appear here as we get organised, thanks for looking in.  He is also here  if you care to read more about him.
Above is one of Olivers recent attempts to paint children on the beach. The artist has 5 children and 5 grandchildren. His animation of such subjects won him a short listing by Robertsons books London,& he was winkled into a group of 4 Irish artists, after the company scoured the world for an Irish illustrator for a new Irish fairy tales book 2 years ago.  While he was out front in the points on animation he failed at the post with his face features, as you can see above hes getting there. Image can be made bigger
Olivers exhibitions as you might well expect started close to home In the Newry art center. He was approached to have an exhibition as the theme of the forth comming festival In the town was the Canal. At this period the artist was trying to paint ships and water, he outlines the word trying.  He learned a lesson at this stage in his career that he wasnt to forget.  After promises were showered on him galore, there wasnt one advertisment In the papers and even worse the exhibition never got a single mention In the programe. Along with this the artist was contending an issue with the council about a historical issue, along with this Oliver was also a rank outsider with the local art clique It was a wash out he states and to top it all there wasnt a glass of water to give the people who did turn up. But like many other wash outs in the same building since, by other art friends of mine from with in and out side the town, I dont feel bad about it, art is a very low key thing in Newry unless you wanna pretend you are a snob.  Im no such thing, this is an opinion which is back up by his friends.
A cutting from an old irish News which refered to Olivers exhibition In the Royal Hotel Dublin where a painting that hed done with the Titanic as  ghost ship recieved some quite remarkable comments and even one request fro some one In Belfast who said the artist should burn it, the painting was the only painting to sell that day, It was a group show some 9-10 artists work was on display, out of them all the Titanic didnt return home
